Post-Secondary Readiness (PSR): RISE 5280’s Post-Secondary Readiness provides exposure to higher education and opportunities to prepare for college. Our bi-annual HBCU tours are a culturally focused, immersive experience where youth get a first-hand encounter with multiple campuses. Youth encounter an environment that celebrates communities of color in academic and professional settings. Tours include the opportunity for youth to apply for college and scholarships and connect with students and faculty.

Additional PSR activities include workshops to support youths’ preparation for financial aid and scholarships, college and major exploration, and college application support.

What you can expect when you go on HBCU tour with RISE 5280:

  • We take 45 students on a tour and the only requirement is that you must be a high school student.
  • We only visit HBCU’s and try to see different schools each trip.

Most Black high school youth have not been on an HBCU campus. So having that experience allows them to have an informed decision on what they want their post- secondary education to look like. Many students have received college acceptance offers while visiting campuses and others have changed their minds from not wanting to go to college to now wanting to go.
